Artist Outreach Program: Internship

Firstly, I want to thank all interested parties in our internship for applying to do so. This is a singular opportunity not only to gain real life experience in the small press industry but become an active driving force for the arts community in which you reside. This internship is designed to help all newly active artists, writers, and filmmakers get their feet wet by actively working in all aspects of the creative process, art marketing, and art education connected with the ART AWARENESS IN EDUCATION program. We strive to achieve this exposure for the participating artists of their own growing work experience while teaching them the ever burgening realities of trying to succeed in life as a  creative individual in an extremely competitive yet rewarding career.

It is the primary goal of our programs to educate the community in terms of literacy, creative outlet in opposition to gang related violence, and positive mentoring within all ranks of the communities that we live in. This is a costly venture even for non-profit organizations like ourselves, especially in the current economy. One way that we seek funding is through grants from various federal and financial organizations. The second way that we raise funds is to produce, market, and sell our submission based sequential art related anthology releases to the community. Money raised from the sales of these releases are in turn used to pay for the printing of the next series of books as well as community based events and the costs to lecture at various community based events. No money raised from the sales of the books goes into any of the managing Executive Committee’s personal pockets. The Executive Committee places many volunteer hours of service alongside the remaining part time employees, volunteers, freelancers, and interns already working on the different departments at GIRAFNetwork.

Thanks,
Jason Bullock

Outreach Instructions

Are You Wanting to Become a GIRAF OutReach Artist?

Most of what you need to know is right here in this section of the GIRAFNetwork website. Firstly in order to submit your work you'll need to register with us by email your intent to submit so we may handle things properly acting to protect your rights of ownership in regards to the creative works. Be aware too that this program is not like the "competition" submission based operation over at DC Comics nor is it as lax as the open entry experience at DrunkDuck.com. If you're not already registered with GIRAFNetwork, then email your intent now!

Submission Explanations:

Step 1. Accept the Submission Agreement
It is in your best interest to print out, read, and sign the Submission Agreement before or close to the time you submit your creative work to GIRAFNetwork. Once you email us with your intent to make a submission, then we can email you the Submission Agreement. If you agree with the terms and conditions, then simply sign and date the document thus returning it back to us by snail mail, digital mail via scanning, etc. If you don't agree, then we will close the inquiry at this time, no harm done.

Step 2. Inquiring Minds
We're going to need to know a bit more about you and your creative work. Provide us with the following required information: the name of your work, its genre, a brief explanation of your idea, and a more thorough explanation of your story and characters. You may only submit one concept at a time. Keep in mind that what you enter at this point will be included in everything that the GIRAF Editors use to evaluate your creative work, so please be careful.

Step 3. Dazzle us with your Best
Submit six to eight pages of your creative work as a sample submission, be they comic pages or of a script or in story format. They must, however, maintain the single congruous theme of your concept work. If they are being submitted digitally, then the initial submission must follow the Technical requirements for consideration. Remember that what you are submitting to GIRAFNetwork as an OUTREACH Artist/Writer is designed to show our editors what you are capable of accomplishing creatively in penciling, inking, coloring, or writing. In this case, always provide current samples of your work. Images should be initially submitted as JPG's in RGB color profile and be no more than 72 DPI in resolution. Should your submission be chosen as an Outreach contender, then additional specs will be discussed with you for printing aspects.

Step 4. Let's have it!
That's it. Once you have gotten all the information together with your samples, submit it to GIRAFNetwork at girafnetwork@hotmail.com where it will be considered for publication as a stand-alone project or as part of an anthology release, including a literary release.
